Reading the above review breaks my heart. We placed our two cats in the ark cattery & had to take them for emergency vetinary treatment immediatly following their collection. They had both contracted cat flu during their stay. The cattery is situated on a busy through road in Swanley & as such pets are returned to owners in travel boxes directly into your vehicle. As the road is busy (& it was dark) we didn't check our cats on collection. Once home 15 mins later in Grove Park we were horrified to discover that both cats were sat in soiled & urine soaked travel boxes - they must have been in their boxes for ages to have reached this state. To the untrained eye we instantly realised they were seriously unwell & rushed them to the emergency vet surgery (in Biggin hill) as it was a bank holiday. they were diagnosed with cat flu, required intensive care & extensive medication. It was touch & go. Initially I rang the cattery to alert them - with reference to their other 'inmates' They were not interested in the slightest, saying both animals were fine when we picked them up & this must have happened during the car journey home. They were really rather horrible (especially at such a distressing time) & slammed the phone down. It beggers belief that this cattery trades upon the experienced vetinary training of one of the staff. It's a totally misleading claim - our vet asserted that both animals would have been unable to have eaten for the previous 2-3 days (due to sever mouth ulcers) & would have hardly touched water & that had they been in the 'care' of the Ark cattery for another day it's unlikely they would have made it. I thought that it was our worst nightmare - but on reading the above lady's experience we had a 'lucky' escape. Subsequently one of our cats died - aged 6 it's my true belief that she never fully recovered from the severe battering her immune system took. I just wish I'd posted my review sooner. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE YOUR CAT WITH THEM FOR EVEN A NIGHT
we were unfortunate to have our beloved pet die at this cattery of unknown reasons. Although he took her to the vet once deceased the cattery owner was not compassionate at all and indifferent to our loss. This cattery is run as a business not by animal lovers and though boasting of a high standard of care I dont believe that the cats have any attention apart from basic feeding and cleaning. My cats run had the flap removed to the outside area and it was freezing, I asked it to be replaced but dont know if this was, we left her there with no food down only water and he turned off the lights in the cattery as we walked out saying she would be fed later. I should have taken her with us but I trusted him to care for her. He took the wrong cat carrier to the vets with her and we have no idea where ours has gone and he doesnt know/care either. Please if you love your cat do not leave them here.
