  Matt was recommended to me by my brother, who passed his test first time a couple of years ago. I passed second time (I made a silly mistake - not Matt's fault!) with only 4 minors and felt fully prepared for the test both times. Matt makes learning to drive simple - he's calm, his instructions are clear, and gently guides you when you're more experienced. He's also flexible when it comes to fitting lessons around your schedule. I guess the best praise I can give is that I recommended him to my girlfriend, who's now enjoying learning to drive with him...

• A dedicated and master instructor

  As a friend and neighbour to us for a long time, it was only natural for me to choose matt as my driving instructor , and I enjoyed every lesson with him. His calm and considered approach to driving helped me get past my early anxiety i'm sure every new driver suffers upon first stepping beehind the wheel of a car, and his clear, logical instructions he would give, along with reassuring comments that became like catchphrases (don't let that clutch push you, healthy sound!) helped make every manouver and journey calm and productive. Even when I drive on my own now I can still hear matt's reasuring voice in my ear! Surely the best driving instructor and one of the best teachers i have ever had, and I would highly recommend him to everyone

  Matt was recommended to me by a friend and he was professional and patient throughout the experience. His methods of teaching (especially for manouvers) made things far easier than I had imagined they would be. I would recommend him to absoloutely anyone and am looking forward to doing my pass plus with him some time in the future!

  I started learning to drive at the end of August last year. My first instructor done nothing for my self confidence. He’d often say things like, your holding up the traffic, or would pressure me to nip out of junctions, which at 5 lessons I wasn’t able to do, well I could but not as quickly as he wanted. Although I was learning to drive, I wasn’t enjoying it and to be honest if you’re going to put yourself though this then you’ve got to get something out of it! I decided that I’d look for another instructor and that’s when I found Matt on this very website, in November last year he became my instructor. I can not begin to describe to you the difference, he explained things to me so I understood why and what I was doing, he was supportive, thoughtful, considerate of me and my commitments fitting in lessons around my day. He even taught me in my car as I couldn’t get the hang of his, he would test me and teach me The Highway Code explaining if need be. He used toy cars to demonstrate what he wanted me to do or what I’d done wrong, and it worked because, yesterday the 11th February 2010 I passed my test, first time. I cannot thank him enough. If you are looking for an instructor, look no further, Matt’s your man.

  Like any one who has their first lesson i was excited yet nervous to get behind the wheel of a car. My friends had been telling me that i would get fed up with it after a while so i didn't know what to expect. With Matt i had the opportunity to enjoy learning to drive therefore loving every driving lesson. He is an excellent and professional instructor and his teaching techniques worked very well. I would highly recommend Matt to any learner Thanks for everything Matt!

  I began driving with Matt after a 4 year break from learning to drive. I had no problems with my previous instructor, but felt I needed a new start. Matt is an excellent instructor and a lovely bloke, he's very calm and patient, and makes you feel very relaxed when you're driving. I found his method of teaching worked really well for me - his lessons are nice and structured so you have a short term goal for every lesson - great when that test seems so far away (because it actually comes up pretty quick!). Having never gotten my head round manoevres before, with Matt's method of teaching I'm now 100 times better at them. When I passed my test it may have been my third attempt, but it was my first one with Matt. Cant recommend him highly enough. Thanks very much!

  After having an instructor that didn't make me feel comfortable and relaxed, i turned to Matt Shurmer. He is a very nice guy, helpful and friendly who makes you feel totally in control, and at ease when considering learning how to drive. I couldn't of asked for a better instructor, you feel really comfortable when communicating with him, his simplicity in teaching makes driving enjoyable and exciting every time you enter the car. Thank you for everything matt, really appreciate it.

• a one day intensive

  I had previously taken a driving test, knew all the basics and wanted to get back into driving after a years break. Matt was great – very patient and supportive. I would highly recommend him. Even though I only had him for a short while, the advice he gave was invaluable. It was also great that I would learn in my own car. Five stars. Thanks a lot.
