Difficulty ‘switching off'/ focusing
Pregnancy Related Conditions
After a consultation to ascertain what is going on for you and an oriental diagnosis to assess energy flow, a personalised Shiatsu treatment is given using a variety of techniques and approaches appropriate for you.
The main features of a Shiatsu treatment are:
• receiver wears loose comfortable clothing during the treatment; no oils are used.
• relaxed perpendicular pressure is applied to the body and acupuncture and stress release points using hands, thumbs, elbows or knees as appropriate.
• gentle or strong stretching and joint rotation, as appropriate to stimulate circulation and encourage the release of tensions.
• You may receive Shiatsu laying comfortably on a futon (pregnant ladies can lay on their side); sitting on a supportive massage chair or leaning on a fit ball.
Receiving Shiatsu during your Pregnancy is a wonderful way to nurture yourself and connect to your baby during a time of many changes. As well as enhance your current wellbeing, Shiatsu may help alleviate pregnancy related symptoms such as:
- morning sickness
- emotional mood swings
Depending on your stage of pregnancy and comfort, you can receive Shiatsu laying on your side with supportive cushions to enhance your comfort.
Postnatally you can receive Shiatsu with your baby laying next to you. Focus will be on replenishing your physical, emotional and mental energy that may have been depleted during labour.
I have been going to Edwina so she had to for a number of years now and each time I go the treatment seems different and sometimes occurs me to ask her to record exactly what she has done so that she can repeat it. And then I tell myself not to bother as I know from experience she will do something different again next time… And here’s the thing; it will be precisely what I need in that moment. Sometimes I will say that I feel exhausted and she knows to do Shiatsu that will re-energise me or conversely on the odd occasion I’ve asked to feel treated and she’s give me treatment that has left me with a glorious feeling of well-being. Either way every time I have had it I feel a lot better when I leave!

"I have found Shiatsu to be very beneficial during my pregnancy. I initially sought treatment to help alleviate SPD symptoms after advice from my physio but found that not only did treatments help my physical state, enabling me to be mobile throughout my pregnancy, but also my emotional wellbeing. Treatments with Edwina provided the opportunity for my body to relax and recuperate from the effort of carrying baby and also helped release anxieties pending the birth. Having had Shiatsu from several Shiatsu Practitoners in the past, I highly rate Edwina's skill and would recommend her treatments to others as she very much tailors her treatments to the individual and offers and empathetic approach."3

Shiatsu with Edwina enables me to do that better, as well as feel hjealthier and happier in general in all of my life. Like I say in different words each time: you are very good at what you do!
